AAHRPP accreditation

The Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs, Inc. (AAHRPP), has awarded Apollo Hospitals Full Accreditation for three years thus providing Apollo the global Gold Seal awarded to institutions which maintain the highest international standards in research.

This accreditation has been awarded based on a strong commitment demonstrated to protect research participants and promoting high quality research.  AAHRPP has accredited less than 2% of hospitals worldwide. To date, only 35 institutions have earned AAHRPP accreditation outside the United States. This is the first time in AAHRPP’s history that 5 hospital locations from the same group (comprising of 13 hospital centres) have been awarded full accreditation simultaneously worldwide. Over 60% of research intensive institutions/medical schools in the U.S along with NIH are AAHRPP accredited.

The hospital locations accredited are Apollo Hospitals Ahmedabad, Apollo Hospitals Chennai (Apollo Main Hospital, Apollo Specialty Hospital, Apollo First Med Hospital, Apollo Tondiarpet Hospital, Apollo Hospitals Vanagaram, Apollo Children’s Hospital), Apollo Hospitals Hyderabad (Apollo Health City Jubilee Hills, Apollo Hospitals DRDO, Apollo Hospitals Hyderguda and Apollo Hospitals Secunderabad), Apollo Specialty Hospitals Madurai and Indraprastha Apollo Hospital New Delhi.

    Benefits of the Gold Seal

  • Earn the respect and meet the expectations of international peers. Long regarded as the gold standard, AAHRPP accreditation is becoming the norm for quality research programs

  • AAHRPP accreditation instils trust among research partners and is therefore, becoming a requirement for collaboration

  • Gain a competitive edge with sponsors and other funders, who require independent IRBs to be AAHRPP accredited. Some sponsors also consider accreditation status when choosing investigative sites.

  • Enhance their standing with U.S. federal agencies- The central IRB of the National Cancer Institute earned AAHRPP accreditation in December 2012.

  • With this Apollo Hospitals can now carry two Gold seals – JCI and AAHRPP and it gives us an opportunity to approach the leading U.S based research oriented institutions including NIH and NCI.
